The answer lies with us. The breakdown of our climate and environment is a global problem, and what we do in the next few years will determine the future of our world.

Community groups in action
Great work from Merton Friends of the Earth! Thanks to the group’s tree planting efforts, 400 more saplings have found a new home in Morden Park, taking the total to over 1,200 trees planted to date since 2019.
A massive congratulations to Wendy Alcock from Barnet Friends of the Earth who won a Civic Award for her “inspiration, passion and innovation promoting local food growing in the community".

Congratulations to Congleton Climate Action for its amazing work recently! The group has welcomed new members and is working on exciting campaigns including important work on disability access and green transport locally.
Birmingham Friends of the Earth used its platforms to promote Friends of the Earth's action asking MPs to back a new law to protect forests and people. The group also made local to global connections on the importance of forests, including a blog by its placement student Jaehong.
Hillingdon Friends of the Earth wrote to its 3 MPs in its borough about Friends of the Earth's Planet over Profit campaign. One of the MPs, John McDonnell, immediately confirmed his support for a new law on business, human rights and the environment.
Calderdale Green New Deal were out on the streets of Halifax highlighting palm oil’s role in deforestation in South East Asia and its use in common products in the UK.
Manchester Friends of the Earth organised 2 brilliant events. The first was a film and speakers hosted by Patagonia at their Manchester store, on Drax, forests and Planet over Profit. The group’s second event was an urban forest walk at the weekend which had a great turnout.
Tottenham and Wood Green Friends of the Earth held a Planet over Profit stall at its local spring festival where the group collected signatures on postcards to send to its MPs.
High Peak Green New Deal made plans to highlight the production of soy for animal feed for UK factory farms that links fast food with forest destruction in South America. Great work.
Local action group and youth network members were in parliament this month, taking part in the Gaza Crisis Lobby Day. They were there with Oxfam GB and others, meeting MPs to discuss a #CeasefireNOW
Friends of the Earth local action groups, alongside other fuel poverty campaigners, took part in a nationwide protest outside parliament demanding the government doesn't "forget" fuel-poor households in the budget.

South East Climate Alliance held an amazing annual gathering. Highlights included hearing from young people at the gathering, and the unveiling of the Young Leaders Manifesto, a call to action to Local Authorities to strengthen their climate strategies.
Newbury Friends of the Earth is currently running an energy conserving campaign to get local businesses to keep their doors shut. As a result the group has built strong relationships with the business community too.
Nice win for the London Friends of the Earth network. Thanks to its work lobbying the Greater London Authority and London Assembly (LA), the LA unanimously passed a motion on retrofit skills training
A gratitude orchard in Caerphilly organised by the Ukrainian community was held at the end of January. Climate Action Caerffili was involved, and the day involved a lovely tree planting event.
